Cannabis beverages are having a moment, and it’s coming at a great time. Innovations in cannabis beverages have made weed-infused drinks tastier and more effective than ever. At the same time, a reported 4 in 10 people say they either closely or occasionally lead a sober curious lifestyle — and they’re looking for alcohol alternatives like cannabis infused beverages.
Infused beverage brand Cann was designed to be that alternative to alcohol. Whether you’re also sober-curious or want to explore a new way to experience cannabis, Cann or another kind of THC beverage may be worth a try.
Cann is no longer available at The Travel Agency, but you can use the Cann finder on the company’s website to locate a retailer. In addition to their cannabis infused line, they also have a line of drinks derived from industrial hemp, as well as a “buzz free” line called Unspiked.
Cann is no longer available at The Travel Agency, but there are plenty of other beverage brands that also offer delicious flavors and a slight buzz.
An even balance of cannabinoids awaits you with Ayrloom THC infused drinks. Available in flavors like Lemonade, Honeycrisp, Pink Grapefruit, Black Cherry, Iced Tea Lemonade, and Pineapple Mango, there’s a match for every mood. There are two cannabinoid formulations to look for: the classic 1:1 ratio of 5 mg THC and 5 mg CBD per can, and Ayrloom Up, which contains 10 mg THC and 5 mg CBD per can.

“[Iced team is] definitely in my top 3 of their beverages. I really enjoyed the taste and the mellow high that it gave. Something that is definitely better over ice and good for any time of the day.” Jude C., Downtown Brooklyn
Low-calorie and low-sugar Tune beverages offer 10 mg of THC per can. With classic flavors like Black Cherry and more unique offerings like Blackberry Cardamom and Sicilian Lemon and Rose, these drinks are an experience for your palate as well as your mind. Try Tune if 10 mg THC is a typical edible dose for your desired experience.
Price: $5 per can
Morning tea gets a whole new meaning. Harney Brothers Cannabis is a division of the Harney & Sons tea purveyors known for their quality, artisan blends. Formulations like Sleep tea contain 12 mg THC per tea sachet alongside calming herbs like holy basil, while the not-so-subtly-named Spicy Pound Town blends 10 mg THC with warming spices like cinnamon and cloves.
Make any drink an infused one. The Travel Agency carries powders and tinctures that you can add to coffee, mocktails… or anything else you can dream up. These enhancers are flavorless and undetectable in your drink.
Single-serving Nanticoke HiiStix that contain 10 mg of THC each are meant to rip, stir, and go. Keep a couple in your bag. Price: $8 for two HiiStix

THC beverages, or cannabis-infused drinks, use a water-soluble form of THC. By nature, THC is fat-soluble, so a special process is applied to allow THC molecules to disperse evenly throughout a liquid. The development and adoption of water-soluble cannabinoids is what makes drinks like infused lemonade and seltzer possible.
Infused drinks are quite popular for a variety of reasons, including:
An alcohol alternative. A THC beverage replicates that drink-in-hand feeling at a party without a glass of wine or a beer. Bonus: There’s no hangover.
Faster onset time: THC beverages absorb into your bloodstream through your mouth, esophagus, and stomach tissues as you drink them. You don’t need to wait for it to digest like you would a classic edible.
Discretion: Nobody has to know that your drink is infused — or that it’s non-alcoholic.
Convenience: Canned beverages are pre-mixed. Just open and sip.
Cann was founded by Jake Bullock and Luke Anderson in 2019 after the duo first turned to cannabis beverages as a way to reduce alcohol consumption. As a queer-owned cannabis brand, Bullock and Anderson noticed how prominent alcohol was in LGBTQIA+ spaces and how many people in their circles — themselves included — were engaging with a sober-curious way of thinking. Their idea was to offer an enjoyable buzz without the booze, giving people a hangover-free alternative.
Cann is designed to be sipped on over time, just like you would a glass of wine or a cocktail. The company offers 8-ounce cans that contain 2mg THC and 4mg CBD per serving for a truly subdued buzz. They also make 12 oz. cans containing 5mg THC for when you want something a bit more. Whichever you choose, you’ll wake up without a hangover or regret.
The complex flavor profile of Cann’s Grapefruit Rosemary is sure to give even the most refined palate pause, artfully combining the bitter sweetness of grapefruit with the earthy, soothing taste of rosemary. Wonderful to start your morning or for a midday picnic, this beverage’s unique flavor and 2:1 CBD:THC ratio is an adventure in its own right. The Grapefruit Rosemary formula is also balanced for a manageable buzz you can maintain or build upon over the course of an evening.
THC and CBD Content: 2mg THC, 4mg CBD
Cann delivers a fruity, floral sensation with its Lemon Lavender beverage. The light, refreshing flavor makes it a great pick for enjoying some time outdoors on a nice day or kicking back and just chilling out at home. Like the other Cann products, Lemon Lavender is designed to be sipped on, creating a nice, subtle buzz that you can gradually build on. These beverages are a good choice for low- and high-tolerance consumers alike.
THC and CBD Content: 2mg THC, 4mg CBD
If you like to add a little spice to your sesh, Cann’s Blood Orange Cardamom is just the ticket. Blending juicy, fruity flavors with a bit of a kick, this flavor is sure to get a rise out of you. Much like its fellow Cann flavors, Blood Orange Cardamom offers a 2:1 CBD-to-THC ratio that provides a balanced experience that doesn’t overwhelm. For a mild buzz, simply sip on one or two.
THC and CBD Content: 2mg THC, 4mg CBD
It’s more important to focus on the THC and CBD content of the beverage products than it is to think about whether the drink is sativa or indica.
Sativa and indica refer to the plant’s phenotype, or how it appears when it grows. Sativas have physical traits like skinny leaves and tall stems, while indicas are bushy with shorter, fatter leaves. These physical traits have little to no bearing on their genotype, or their genetic makeup. The THC and CBD content — along with the plant’s terpene content — is connected to genotype.
That being said, most THC enhanced beverages are not strain-specific. This means that the cannabis extract used to make THC drinks is not directly tied to a particular strain, like a strain-specific live resin extract might be. This removes THC beverages even further from the sativa/indica distinction that’s so often used to help folks decide which products are best for them.
Instead, pay more attention to how the ratio of CBD to THC makes you feel. The CBD content in drinks like Ayrloom helps even out THC’s effects on your endocannabinoid system. This means that, generally, you’ll feel less buzzed drinking a 1:1 Ayrloom beverage than you might feel drinking a Tune seltzer that only contains THC. But like any cannabis product, if you’re new to trying it for the first time, start with a small amount and wait to see how you feel before trying more.
