You may feel:
Take a sensory journey with a cultivar your grandparents may have actually consumed. Sixty years of notoriety cement this sativa as a matriarch of the modern cannabis genome.
With a long history interconnected with music and culture, Acapulco Gold is recognized as one of the High Times’ “25 Greatest Strains of all Time.” You might consider enjoying this earthy, sweet legend of a Sativa during a daytime creative session, long walk, or before listening to an interesting lecture.
Well, it could, but it’s not likely. Some passionate smokers feel that this cultivar has more of an energizing, motivating impact, and not so much a down-tempo, sleepytime vibe. You may choose Acapulco Gold before deep diving on an art project, brainstorming or journaling, making music, going dancing with friends, or possibly even a long, sweaty workout. This cultivar lands higher on the potency scale, so it may impart some overwhelm on a more novice traveler. Cautions aside, we may suggest a different strain to de-stress or reduce anxiety.
Originating in Mexico, Acapulco Gold first emerged in the US and enchanted connoisseurs in the 1960s. The cornerstone cultivar has since been well-loved, from the hippies, to the eighties’ punks, to today’s dispensary travelers. Its legendary status can be credited to nostalgia for its heyday. Allegedly, this was one of Jack Nicholson’s favorite strains.
Aside from the strain’s U.S. debut and connection to musical countercultures, its origins are widely unknown. A lot of information about the strain has truly been left to legend.
This strain, which originally hails from Mexico, is what’s called a landrace strain. This means it evolved and domesticated over time in its indigenous region, in this case, the Guerrero Mountains outside of Acapulco, Mexico. We don’t know who initially added it into the U.S. cultivar mix, but its entry into the country came just in time for it to become a cult classic, immortalized by Cheech and Chong themselves.
The cannabinoid content in Acapulco Gold varies, but typically always lingers on the higher end of THC potency. Depending on the harvest, you can find THC levels as high as 25% or as low as 18%.
The aromatic and flavorful terpenes present in Acapulco Gold cannabis flower, vapes, and concentrates include:
Beta-caryophyllene: This sharp, spicy, peppery aroma is also found in cloves, black peppercorns, and rosemary.
Myrcene: Its tropical, juicy mango smell is prominent in many popular cannabis cultivars.
Pinene: This famous herbaceous and earthy terpene is also found in conifer trees, parsley, basil, dill, and orange peels.
No, it’s not. The color of the Acapulco Gold cannabis flower varies, but it’s not glistening gold.
Finding this cultivar (strain) in nug format is not common, given its rarity. But we specialize in the out-of-the-ordinary at The Travel Agency, including uncommon strains. For instance, we carry Acapulco Gold vapes from Heavy Hitters that feature up to 90% concentrated THC potency. Sign up for The Travel Club to get the latest product drops.
