Toronja is a zesty modern cultivar worth trying for a treasure trove of reasons. The name “Toronja” is Spanish for pink grapefruit. It has a milder but still high THC content, which is met with a notable amount of CBG and occasional CBD.
Toronja is worth trying if you use cannabis as a functional part of your lifestyle. It’s still a perfectly suitable strain for those who consume weed as a tune-out treat, but its unique characteristics make it a great choice for just about any time.
Toronja is perfect for any time of day, as a Sativa-dominant hybrid with a well-balanced terpene profile and the presence of diverse active cannabinoids. Unlike many other strains available in New York City, Toronja may not be our first suggestion for your bedtime usage.
This strain may be a great functional component of your pre- or post-workout routine. As a pre-workout, Toronja’s cannabinoid mix might yield great focus and physical awareness for personal-record lifts or compound movements. Travelers report uplifting vibes from smoking Toronja which may add some pep to your step for a group class at OrangeTheory, or seeing if the Tracy Anderson method is legit.
Post-workout, Toronja might be an optimal tool for finishing the rest of your day strong and maximizing the body’s recovery processes. Some accounts concur that athletes and movers of all types might enjoy the benefits from cannabinoids like CBG found in Toronja as part of their recovery routines.
New travelers may delight in toking Toronja as an entry-level strain. It’s on the lower end of the THC spectrum compared to most of the other strains on the market. This could make for a less overwhelming smoking experience. Given Toronja’s reputation for allegedly bestowing feelings of joy, focus, and physical comfort, we’d suggest it to newcomers rather than something more couch-locky and down-tempo like Granddaddy Purple.
While THC is Toronja’s most dominant cannabinoid, showing up around 20% to 23%, you’ll find .01% to 1% CBD and around 2% to 3% CBG (Cannabigerol). While CBD has been having its moment in the U.S. wellness industry for some time now, CBG is paradoxically lesser known and crowned as “the mother of all cannabinoids.” Due to something called the “entourage effect,” the benefits of all three cannabinoids shine best when they’re consumed together.
Toronja comes from a cross between Grapefruit Chem and THC Bomb being bred with another strain called Govern Mint Oasis. Grapefruit Chem is a sativa-dominant-hybrid with a higher amount of THC than Toronja. It was crossed with an equally potent, similarly-sativa, woodier-smelling cultivar called THC Bomb. The progeny of this Grapefruit Chem/THC Bomb crossbreed was bred with hybrid-dominant cultivar Govern Mint Oasis.
Toronja terpenes aren’t as widely available to browse online as other strains, so we found them by looking at the Certificates of Analysis, or COAs, from our friends at Hudson Cannabis. In the lab results from a batch of their Toronja quarter-ounces, terpenes caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene are present in relevant quantities.
