From April 14th to 30th, guests at The Travel Agency can make a meaningful difference in the ongoing, long-term work of liberating people incarcerated for cannabis-related activities that are now legal. During this period, we are partnering with The Last Prisoner Project on a letter-writing activation that will reach those currently serving sentences for non-violent cannabis offenses. Keep reading to learn about The Last Prisoner Project and how your contributions will power our joint campaign.

About The Last Prisoner Project

The Last Prisoner Project, a nonprofit founded in 2019, has one singular mission: to free them all.

The people currently incarcerated for cannabis-related activities, or who are suffering the collateral consequences of incarceration, would almost certainly not be affected in today’s legislative climate. Nevertheless, tens of thousands of people in the U.S. are still serving years-long or decades-long sentences — or, worse yet, life sentences — despite their previous activities now being legal.

The Last Prisoner Project works to release as many of these prisoners as possible. LPP has secured the release of a 90-year-old and achieved clemency for a single working father — in both cases, 13 years into a life sentence. It has also freed a father who had yet to meet his grandchildren after more than 25 years of incarceration. The organization’s efforts continue after people are freed, with more than $2 million in grant funding distributed for reentry support to those released.

Among The Last Prisoner Project’s approaches are legal interventions, early release programs, constituent support, and advocacy campaigns that lead to policy change. The organization’s leaders in drug policy and criminal justice reform, policy and education experts, and justice-impacted people continue to mend the harms caused by the discriminatory, counterproductive War on Drugs. Among the nonprofit’s staff are experts in reentry programs, compassionate release motions, clemency petitions, and restorative justice.

The Last Prisoner Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and it has earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. It has also earned Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency. From its mission to its trustworthiness, The Last Prisoner Project is exactly the kind of organization we’re proud to support at The Travel Agency.

Why The Travel Agency supports The Last Prisoner Project

As a company founded on the belief that legal cannabis can repair damage done by the War on Drugs, we at The Travel Agency see The Last Prisoner Project as an ideal nonprofit partner.

At our Union Square location, we direct more than half our profits to The Doe Fund, which provides those who have experienced incarceration and homelessness with employment, support services, and transitional and permanent housing. In this regard, our mission and that of The Last Prisoner Project overlap, and this isn’t the only area of significant similarity. Our Downtown Brooklyn and Fifth Avenue locations are owned by people who have experienced cannabis-related injustices, and we hire formerly incarcerated individuals and legacy operators.

We know firsthand that it’s paramount to support people who are incarcerated, especially those incarcerated for cannabis-related activities that are now legal. Through its actions to liberate exactly these people, The Last Prisoner Project shows that it understands this goal’s vital importance as well. We at The Travel Agency are proud to support The Last Prisoner Project’s ongoing efforts to bring forth a world in which nobody is incarcerated for the plant.

How you can support The Last Prisoner Project at The Travel Agency

From April 14th to 30th, 2025, The Travel Agency is conducting a letter-writing campaign so that The Last Prisoner Project’s incarcerated constituents can hear from the outside world. Whenever you visit The Travel Agency, you can write a letter to someone currently incarcerated on non-violent cannabis charges.

Although you and the person you’re writing to might never cross paths in real life, letters from the outside are known to empower people to keep fighting for their release. In situations that can feel as hopeless as incarceration, communication from friends, family, and strangers alike is vital to keeping the liberation movement alive.

Ask the staff at The Travel Agency to direct you to a letter-writing station, and from there, let your most compassionate, empowering words flow. Thank you for contributing to one of the most meaningful fights of our lifetime.
