Which roads can cannabis take you on? With THCV, you’re in for a unique experience that’s a bit different from the standard delta-9 THC.

What is THCV?

THCV is short for the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabivarin — quite a mouthful, we know. Structurally speaking, THCV is just a bit different from THC, but those tiny changes can make a big difference in the way we experience a certain cannabinoid. It’s found in trace amounts in certain strains.

THCV effects: Why do folks seek it out?

Less munchies: This cannabinoid may have you skipping the Seamless order. THCV may actually decrease your appetite.

Not as heady: THCV may have less pronounced effects compared to THC. If you want to experience the benefits of THC but don’t want to feel too high to function, THCV may offer a good balance.

Calming and relaxing effects: Take a literal chill pill. THCV may be just the ticket to unwind mentally without feeling too lethargic to get up and go.

Enhanced motivation: Some folks say that they experience a boost in energy after trying a cannabis product that contains THCV. You’ll find some workout enthusiasts trying THCV for its impact on focus.

How does THCV work?

Similar to THC, THCV interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) primarily through cannabinoid receptors called CB1 and CB2. Unlike THC, which binds to these receptors, THCV is what’s called a partial agonist of these receptors. This means they bind to receptors, but they produce less than the maximum effect than a compound that binds fully to those receptors. That’s why THC may feel stronger or more intense than THCV.

How is THCV different from THC?

Unlike THC, which is known for the classic “high,” THCV may have less pronounced impacts, especially at lower doses. It may even counter-balance some of THC’s effects. THCV also develops in much smaller amounts in cannabis compared to THC.

Products with THCV

Chime & Chill’s Pick Me Up THCV Oral Solution is a great place to start if you’re interested in exploring THCV. The safflower-based solution contains 20 mg of THCV and 1 mg of CBD. It’s formulated to enhance daily focus and motivation, perfect for those days that are moving by a little too slowly. Pair it with THC to feel fewer psychoactive effects, or take it on its own for a burst of energy.

Strains high in THCV

Strains high in THCV aren’t common, but you’ll find a few on The Travel Agency’s menu. Landrace sativa strain Durban Poison, known for its uplifting and energizing effects, is among the most notable high THCV strains.

Keep in mind that “high THCV” is still quite a low percentage, particularly when compared to THC. Generally speaking, for all cannabinoids aside from THC, a concentration of 1% or more is considered elevated.
